Wash, Dry, Fold
by Nedra Pezold Roberts

May 20 - June 4, 2016 | Now closed.
AACT New Play Fest Winner.
Sisters Trudy and Enola have been bickering all their adult lives over differences in religion, lifestyle, and childhood resentments. Now they’re stuck with each other running a run-down New Orleans laundromat. Uncle Slackjaw, a Vietnam P.O.W., slips in and out of reality as often as he wanders in and out of the laundromat. The arrival in town of Arlene, a tattoo artist, brings the possibility of change. Might she be the catalyst for resolution, reconciliation, or even redemption?
CST is honored to have been selected as one of the seven companies in the nation to produce a winner from the American Association of Community Theatre’s New Play Festival.
This AACT NewPlayFest world premiere production of Wash, Dry, Fold by Nedra Pezold Roberts is made possible in part by a grant from JKA FAL Jack K. Ayre, Frank Ayre Theatre Foundation

Nedra Pezold Roberts has been writing all her life, and a good portion of that time she spent teaching student writers and editing their work. She has published two textbooks (one on drama, one on English Advanced Placement), written six plays, a novel entitled ZOOM, and is working on a second novel in that series, DOUBLE EXPOSURE.
Her play THE VANISHING POINT received a reading at the 2007 Southern Women Writers Conference and in 2011 was a finalist in both the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference and Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre’s ScriptFEST. In 2013, THE VANISHING POINT was a winner in the American Association of Community Theatre NewPlayFest—and the premiere of the play, by California Stage in Sacramento, swept seven of the eight Elly Awards for which it was nominated, including best original script. The play also won the 2013 Southern Playwrights Competition, receiving a production at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.
VOICES! , a one-act, had a run in 2014 in Brooklyn by Gallery Players; COLOR ME SCREWED, also a one-act, was produced in 2015 by theatres in Houston, Tampa, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
WASH, DRY, FOLD received a staged reading in 2014 as a finalist in Dayton Playhouse’s FutureFest, and in 2015 had two more staged readings, by New York’s Nora’s Playhouse and by Atlanta’s Essential Theatre. The play was a finalist in several other competitions, at Kitchen Dog (Dallas), Strange Sun (Chicago), HRC Showcase (Hudson, NY), and The Bridge (Arizona). Finally, also in 2015, it was named a winner in the second AACT NewPlayFest competition, making Nedra the only two-time AACT winner. Chicago Street Theatre is pleased to present the world premiere of WASH, DRY, FOLD.
Nedra is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and Working Title Playwrights, and serves on the board of the hundred-year-old Atlanta Writers Club.
