Offering “Shakespeare in Shorts” for children ages 8-13 and the “Shakespeare Teen Workshop” for ages 14-18. Students will perform Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Classes run for 6 weeks and culminate in a main stage performance.
This camp introduces students to the literature of Shakespeare through the performance of shortened adaptations in the original language. The play, AS YOU LIKE IT, is divided into five acts, with students assigned a different role in each act, allowing all to play a variety of roles and to learn the play from different perspectives. The charming, but bare bones approach of performing Shakespeare in t-shirts and shorts guarantees an immersion in the imaginative language of the bard. The culmination includes two main-stage performances, in tandem with the Teen Shakespeare Workshop.
This intensive six-week workshop will focus on Shakespeare’s, AS YOU LIKE IT. Students will be cast in roles, learn all aspects of acting in a production, including the use of the original language and iambic pentameter “clues,” along with historical references to clothing, style and behavior. A “Yard Show” will also be a part of the production, giving students the opportunity to re-create the atmosphere of The Globe Theatre of Shakespeare’s time, by performing as jugglers, clowns, and musicians. This workshop features two main-stage performances and pre-show participation in Chicago Street’s annual Shakespeare in The Park production in Central Park Plaza.
Camps that encourage the creative artist – those who draw, paint, listen to music, watch YouTube videos and make their own. Offerings range from 1-3 weeks and accommodate ages 10-17.
