Up-Staged is an initiative of Chicago Street Theatre to foster the development of new works by playwrights through free public performances and staged readings. The staged reading of Matt Pera's new play will take place on Sunday, August 2, 2015 in the upstairs Edith B. Wood Studio Theatre. Seating is limited and at this time is not wheelchair accessible. Following the presentation will be a discussion between the audience and playwright on the work to assist the further development of the material.
Doug is a thirty-something burnout living in his parents' basement. His brother, Russ, is a successful advertising executive living in New York City. Once united by a love of film and the desire to make movies together, they have become estranged as their paths have diverged toward lives neither of them imagined. When their father becomes sick, they must face each other and take stock of who they have become, and who they could have been.
Matt Pera grew up at Chicago Street Theatre through the involvement of his parents Jonni and David. He took part in many theatrical productions throughout his youth and has worked as a writer and film maker. We are thrilled to help develop his latest work!
